Record-setter Maisie Summers-Newton takes gold at World Championships
Maisie Summers-Newton won World Championships gold in the SM6 Individual 200m relay, beating her own world record.
The 17-year-old, that recorded the quickest time during the heats earlier in the afternoon, completed the race in two moments, 57.24 minutes, even knocking 0.75 minutes of the current record that she set in the World Series in Glasgow back in April this year.
Talking to Sky Sports, Summers-Newton said:»It was such a great swim and also to perform it in the front of this crowd was amazing, I am so pleased with it.»
Her win also gave spectators one of those minutes of the night since the crowds roared her to success as well as her sister might be observed on the huge screen revealing her elation at the outcome.
«I got out and I said to her why are crying?» Summers-Newton stated. «I think she was just so happy to see me do it in front of a home crowd.»
Another swimmer who had been hit by the home audience was Alice Tai, that kept everybody’s nerves on edge right.
Claiming her third gold medal in as many days, she finished at a Championship Record period of one moment 09.76 moments from the procedure.
For most of the race, Tai appeared very much in command but then the USA’s Jessica Long upped her pace in the past 50m and finished only 0.02 seconds supporting the British uterus.
«This was close, really close,» Tai told Sky Sports. «It was fairly cool but also somewhat extreme. I could also listen to the audience and I really could see Jess on my side and I was honestly panicking. Like I’ve definitely not got this at a single point I was.
«I knew that this one might be very close though, only to have won it I’m really blessed.»
There was also a gold medal and Championship Record to get Louise Fiddes in the SB14 100m Breaststroke as Great Britain added six medals to their tally daily three of the Para-Swimming World Championships.
