Lucy Bronze midfield experiment part of two-year Lionesses plan, says Phil Neville
England Women’s head coach Phil Neville states the transition into midfield of Lucy Bronze is part of a plan for its Lionesses.
Neville’s decision to set up the UEFA Women’s Player of the Year out of position in the 3-3 draw against Belgium Women of England was contested after the Lionesses didn’t impress Thursday’s friendly.
However, the England Women head coach is insistent that decision was a part of a wider plan, with the Bronze herself looking in to the idea.
«The matter is she is [satisfied] and would like to play with there,» Neville explained.
«She’s bought into the design of the little time of giving her a platform to find some consistency at the position.
«it is an entirely different mindset but I believe that if we’re taking a look at a two-year plan we must be brave in certain conditions and certain positions that we are wanting to strengthen and become much better in.
«When you haven’t got Jill Scott, Fran Kirby or even Jordan Nobb, we must find players of that quality, experience and physical ability that will require us to the next level.
«Lucy will return to back. There is this fixation with me and she enjoying with with . Pep Guardiola failed it with Phillipp Lahm, performed with him right-back when he had been one of the best players on earth in one of those World Cups.
«The following season I went to watch Bayern Munich versus Borussia Monchengladbach and that he had been at central midfield – he had been the best player on the pitch.
«You have got to really have a vision for someone and you know everything? Lucy has the exact same vision for me. She is liked by the team there. There’ll be times when she is sometimes she will probably be in right-back and in there.
«Finally. We are trying to make the team better. We’re attempting to have Lucy to impact the group over she already has at right-back.»
«I enjoyed the game we played USA and that I played midfield then,» Bronze said.
«This was a struggle playing against the best team on earth at a position I haven’t played since I was 16, I totally enjoyed it.
«I played against Canada too but I did not like it . I had been tired and it’s tough to play with my own place at a top global game let alone a different place.
«I had been in midfield the other day and I truly enjoyed it. It’s funny because just two of the younger girls in the team and I’m playing in midfield now and I am sort of being bossed about by these. They are telling me that I am doing things wrong.
«It’s enjoyable for me personally, I like being pushed. I’m comfortable at uneasy and full-back but a grin and I’m playing. I am learning new things. Perhaps it will help me if I return to full-back, it’s a challenge.»
