Listed joy for Lancaster House at Listowel
Lancaster House maintained his unbeaten record intact with an authoritative display from the Edmund & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes.
Aidan O’Brien’s colt was a eight-length winner in his debut at the Galway Festival in early August – and also having followed up in a conditions event under a fortnight ago, he had been the 7-4 favourite as he stepped up to Listed course in County Kerry on Monday.
Drawn broadest of all in stall 17, Lancaster House managed to tack round and was soon in the position in supporting the pace-setting set of Wagrave along with Warnaq.
Given his head by the trainer’s son Galileo’s boy, Donnacha O’Brien put distance between himself and his opponents – passing the post two and three dimensional lengths clear from Wargravetop of the remainder in third.
«That’s the best feel he has given me so far,» explained the rider.
«By (stall) 17, to have the speed to get as much as some position like that early, he has done very well. He travelled around very easy.
«He impressed me today – I believe he’s quite a good horse.
«I thought a mile and a quarter was going to be his excursion, but he flew so simple and revealed a great deal of speed now – therefore a mile or a mile and a quarter would be his excursions »
