Alfie Hewett retains US Open wheelchair singles crown

The US Open wheelchair singles Summit was Kept by alfie Hewett against Stephane Houdet of France.

The 21-year-old from Norwich edged a tight first set after a tie-break outside on Court 11. He led 4-1 in the second set but had been pegged back from Houdet before taking another tie-break to finish a 7-6 (11-9) 7-6 (7-5) victory. Hewett stated:»I was frustrated to not be about a bigger courtroom, but I’ve never lost on this courtroom so thank you for whomever made that choice. «Thanks to everybody back home, it is great to win and also to defend the title.» Another name was claimed by hewett in the doubles with Scotland’s Gordon Reid, the British duo coming from a set down to overcome Gustavo Fernandez and Shingo Kunieda. Meanwhile, the Eastcote’s Andy Lapthorne won the wheelchair quad singles with a victory over Dylan Alcott. Lapthorne, who dropped in the Wimbledon final of this year to Alcott, won 6-1 6-0 in only 56 minutes to add to his 2014 US Open victory. Lapthorne and Alcott subsequently linked to win the doubles final, 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 10-6 after a match tie-break against American set Bryan Barton and David Wagner.
