Andy Walker backs Rangers to push Celtic all the way in title race
Top-of-the-league Rangershave every opportunity of finishing Celtics eight-year reign of dominance at the Premiership this season, according to former Hoops striker Andy Walker.
Celtic fell following Sundays 2-0 defeat Livingston, with Rangers this weekend behind their Glasgow rivals.
Rangers have been in good form since losing to Celtic at Ibrox, winning half of their previous seven matches, and Walker believes – regardless of the championsfinancial edge – that the Gers will choose the title race into the cable.
I think this will be a terrific season, Walker told Sky Sports News.
I believe you need to respect Rangers and how they have responded. Apart from the [Europa League] defeat Young Boys, their answer has been terrific.
I dont think we are going to understand many things composed with Celtic and Rangers. Ironically, Celtic have followed a draw using a defeat. I think theyre going to prove to be very debilitating in their own pursuit for the name.
In case Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe steer clear of injury that I believe Rangers have every opportunity [of winning the name ]. I think to front from middle theyre creating chances. Connor Goldson is looking strong at the back but he is also popping up with a target or two.
The answer because losing to Celtic has been absolutely first class. And, make no doubtthe title race is going right to the close of the season.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard cautioned his players not to havetaken away following Sundays win as they push their very first Scottish Premiership title since 2011.
Gerrards appropriate to downplay talk of a title race, added Walker.
However, the fans are speaking about it every day – never mind every week because theyre not able to see their group cease Celtic get their ancestral [title in a row].
Celtic have the benefit in a financial sense. Arguably, they have a stronger squad.
It is maybe a bit surprising that Neil Lennon hasnt utilised that squad a bit more because he mustve understood that Livingston would have made it a struggle – and the players werent ready for this.
Its a real boost for Steven Gerrard to find how his players have responded because that defeat to Celtic at Ibrox.
